ACM SIGCHI Bangalore Chapter Meet

The 3rd ACM SIGCHI Bangalore Chapter meet was hosted by Honeywell Labs, Bangalore. The meet was well attended ( about 100?) & organized by the UCD blokes. Great show guys :) It was fun meeting old colleagues, friends and some new faces too.

Durga Prasad (Chair SIGCHI) gave an intro about SIGCHI Bangalore Chapter .

Jeremy Ashley (Head User Experience Oracle) gave a cool talk about the User Experience activities at Oracle. Oracle will complete setting up their Usability Test Lab by 2007 in Bangalore and are HIRING experienced Usability Engineers and Interaction Designers.

Bhushan Patil (Yahoo India) talked about Web 2.0. Pallavi from SAP Labs talked about stuff like how to effectively network ( use personal contacts) to get access to SAP users in Bangalore and how to store and retrieve the gathered data. Some of the visuals used in this presentation were cool.

And then, Niteesh facilitated a design discussion on "How do we measure design".

Wholistically, the Bangalore CHI crowd is gettin bigger & mature. But, think its high time that we stop beating about the same bush, that too, too often. "User Centered Design" process and activities can evangelized to other teams. I am looking forward to better and different topics next time. Something in the lines of what the BayCHI folks are upto?

Incidentally, and for some shameless self promotion, i got a mention in ACM SIGCHI Interactions Magazine (March 2006) along with Amit Pande from Oracle, Amit Chaudhry from Microsoft etc.,

I am considering conducting testing in Bangalore as part of an international study. I want to speak with professionals age 25 to 39 who are English readers. Couple of questions: Are any usability professionals in your organization interested in conducting the research? Is it possible to have participants view an English language site and be comfortable commenting? Thanks.
